I am a strong supporter of cannabis for its potential use in creating biofuels, particularly biodiesel. Cannabis sativa, commonly known as hemp, has been cultivated for over 4,500 years for various purposes such as fiber, oil, medicine, and narcotics. Originating from Central Asia, hemp has a long history of cultivation in Asia, Europe, and China. Hemp has the capacity to yield approximately 363 liters of oil per hectare (39 gallons per acre). Varieties used for drug production, containing high levels of the psychoactive compound THC, are typically grown in tropical regions, whereas those cultivated for oil and fiber thrive in temperate and subtropical areas. When cultivated for non-drug purposes, hemp is often referred to as "industrial hemp." Licenses for hemp cultivation have been granted in the European Union and Canada.
